Brazil imports nearly 140 million liters of ethanol from the US in November

December 13, 2016 |

In Brazil, November ethanol imports reached 139.6 million liters, up 90% on the month and the highest since January 2012. A year ago, exports were just 10 million liters. Just 13 million liters entered through the port of Santos while the vast majority entered the country via the northwest ports of Itaqui and Suape. The US supplied 98% of the imports, nearly all of which was anhydrous ethanol for fuel blending. As mills focus on sugar production rather than ethanol, the need for imports during the crush has increased.
