CCS technology at ADM’s Decatur biofuel facility may be scaled up in South Africa

December 14, 2016 |

In South Africa, ADM’s carbon capture and storage trial project at its biofuel plant in the Illinois basin that has successfully stored 1 million metric tons of CO2 will be scaled up to use alongside coal mines in Esteven in conjunction with Canada’s Petroleum Technology Research Center, the Illinois State Geological Survey, and the South African National Energy Development Institute. Hopes are that the project will inspire industries apart from coal like steel making to use CCS for reducing carbon emissions.
