Hawaiian biodiesel storage project could be online by September

December 15, 2016 |

In Hawaii, Hoku Kai Biofuels is finalizing financial restructuring of the company in order to resume refurbishment of an old asphalt plant that will as soon as September be a new biodiesel storage facility. Using pipe and tanks previously owned by Shell, the plan is to offload biodiesel from vessels at the port in Hilo Harbor and store it for use in transportation or by Hawaii Electric Light Co. for electricity production. The company got caught up with some financial challenges earlier this year but new investors coming on board are meant to have the project ready to move forward again by February.
