In Uganda, opposition MPs are calling for the new biofuels bill that will regulate the production, licensing and storage of biofuels be phased in over five years due to a lack of commercial production capacity currently in the country. The shadow minister for energy is calling for a food crop exclusion to be included in the bill to ensure there won’t be competition to produce fuels from the crops and risk food security. The proposed law also outlines the roles for the ministry of energy and national bureau of standards to facilitate biofuel production.
