Indian sugar industry wants higher prices while minister calls for balance with ethanol

In India, while the national sugar industry is calling for high sugar prices to ensure economic viability at mills, the transportation minister who has been a long-time supporter of the transition to biofuels is instead calling for a balance that would include increased ethanol production rather than putting all of the pressure on sugar prices to keep mills afloat. The minister is leading a push towards second-generation ethanol and has called on the industry to support that shift.
