Court of Appeals sides with EPA on Argentina biodiesel regulations

December 21, 2016 |

In Washington, the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled in favor of the Environmental Protection Agency in the case brought against it by the National Biodiesel Board that argued the EPA held Argentine biodiesel producers to weaker standards than domestic producers. The court ruled the agency’s methodology to ensure land where soybeans were grown for biodiesel were not deforested after 2007 was sufficiently vigorous. Argentine imports have more than doubled in 2016 through September at 6.3 million barrels while November’s imports from Argentina represented 75% of net imports from all countries.
