Kakira Sugar commissions 20 million liter ethanol plant

January 9, 2017 |

In Uganda, Kakira Sugar has commissioned it $36.6 million ethanol plant built by Praj to produce 20 million liters of ethanol annually from 74,000 metric tons of molasses. In December, the Parliament proposed an update to the 2007 biofuels bill that would allow between 5% and 15% ethanol blending with gasoline. The sugarcane miller will have to sell its ethanol to oil marketing companies rather than to the market for blending directly but it is also discussing with an ethanol cooking stove supplier in the US for introduction of an ethanol cooking fuel market.
