Chinese ethanol and DDGs imports sink in December ahead of tariffs

January 23, 2017 |

In China, ethanol imports in December fell 31% on the year to 124,823 cubic meters in response to increased domestic production and expectation of the increased import duties that should be announced shortly on US ethanol. DDGs saw an even more dramatic fall in demand as imports sank by more than 83% on the year. Even with the sudden drop in demand for ethanol imports, the year’s total reached 890,140 cubic meters, nearly 30% more than 2015. DDGs imports fell by 55% for the full year, however, to 3.07 million metric tons.
