Connection deal agreed to tie Duke Energy to Optima’s methane projects

In North Carolina, Piedmont Natural Gas will tie two of Duke Energy’s combined-cycle natural gas plants 80,000 dekatherms of natural-gas quality methane from swine waste produced by Optima KV. Optima agreed the supply deal with Duke Energy in May while the connection agreement was communicated to the utilities regulator on Tuesday. Duke is also buying 1 million dekatherms of methane from Carbon Cycle Energy of Colorado, who will produce up to 2.4 million dekatherms from animal and other organic waste.
