January biomass diesel production and imports down 63% on the month

February 21, 2017 |

In Washington, the Energy Information Administration said January production and imports of biomass diesel fell more than 63% from December to just 125.8 million gallons due to a lack of demand from the Renewable Fuel Standard. The 2017 RFS calls for 2 billion gallons of biomass diesel this year but production and imports were 2.9 billion gallons in 2016 against 1.9 billion gallons of demand. The surplus weighed on demand enough to slow imports and production significantly.
