Fishkill cause confirmed as wastewater discharge from Roxal Bioenergy

February 27, 2017 |

In the Philippines, local authorities have confirmed reports received by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources that the rivers of Pontevedra have suffered a fishkill caused by wastewater discharged from the Roxol Bioenergy plant in La Carlota City. Discharge from the facility’s wastewater treatment plant has happened several times since 2015 when overflows occur, which officials say has negatively impacted crabs and other marine life due to regular pollution in addition to tilapia that were killed in the most recent incident.
