Indian biodiesel industry worried as expiry of excise tax exemption nears

February 28, 2017 |

In India, while the biodiesel industry waits for the renewable energy ministry to develop a policy that would promote biodiesel rather than the 2009 law that doesn’t provide sufficient price support, it must instead return every year to the finance ministry in hopes of getting the excise tax exemption renewed. It runs out on March 31. Last year, the finance ministry extended the exemption for another year but not until May, more than a month after it expired. The industry is looking for more of a solid policy framework than constantly fearing the exemption won’t be extended.
