Spokane Tribe may get biodiesel equipment from failed 2008 county project

March 1, 2017 |

In Washington state, the Spokane Indian Tribe may become the new owners of the a grain crusher and remaining biofuel equipment that are the remnants of the county’s failed attempt to create a local biodiesel industry using canola and other oil crops. The equipment was purchased in 2008 using $344,000 from the Department of Energy and another $500,000 from another state agency. The equipment is currently valued at about $60,000 and would be surplused to the tribe, which is allowed by the grant agreement as it is another government agency using the equipment for public benefit.
