In Illinois, a well-known agricultural economics professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign believes that the $1 per gallon biodiesel blending credit will be extended even though it lapsed at the end of last year, so the subsidy should be calculated into economic analysis of the industry. He said that a sharing agreement of just 20% of the retroactive credit for producers—though traditionally 50% can range from 0% to 100%—could flip producers from a loss to a profit.
