Brazilian ethanol traders caught short as they flood themselves out of a profit

In Brazil, the bet that ethanol traders made last year when they started booking imports of US ethanol for supply during the intraharvest period when supplies are typically tight and prices high has appeared to backfire. That’s because a few traders didn’t get the idea, but many traders, enough to flood the market and weigh on prices when everyone was meant to be booking profits. Prices fell more than 20% as imports between November and February jumped eight-fold.
