Researchers outline 23 barriers to advanced biofuels’ success

April 11, 2017 |

In Virginia, researchers from Virginia Tech University have determined that 52% of advanced biofuels facilities were already closed in 2015 and have determined a list of 23 barriers that could potentially explain why these projects have failed. Technology issues were identified as key internal barriers while external barriers were dominated by the Renewable Fuel Standard and funding. Part of the study looks also at what the advanced biofuels industry itself believes are the barriers in order to find ways to overcome them.
