Australian community looking to produce electricity from landfill methane

April 18, 2017 |

In Australia, the community of Noosa is going to begin producing electricity from the methane captured at its landfill in an effort to boost efficiency. Through improved methane capture techniques, capture has increased to 330,000 cubic meters per month. Rather than spreading the landfill out further and occupying more land, the waste is piled higher which has led to increased methane production as well. The council is expected to soon approve a third bin for curbside collection of organic waste.
