World Bank funding project to scale up UCO for biodiesel in Uganda

April 18, 2017 |

In Uganda, the National Agriculture Research Organization is pushing for hotels, communities and restaurants to collect used cooking oil for later conversion into biodiesel in an effort to remove from the market oil that is no longer safe for human consumption. The World Bank’s Agricultural Technology and Agribusiness Advisory Services is funding the three year project. The project follows up on five years of research into alternative uses for UCO instead of leaving hotels and restaurants to sell UCO to smaller roadside businesses that in turn exposes the public to potential health problems.
