In California, Calgren Renewables is scaling up its methane replacement program by tapping into several nearby dairies, connected through 20 miles of pipeline, in order to power its ethanol plant. The company has been sourcing methane from one nearby dairy, and satisfied with the results, is scaling up the program. In addition to reducing the distillery’s demand for natural gas, the dairies benefit from supplying methane they would otherwise have to treat through on-site biogas production in order to achieve the state’s new methane reduction mandates.
