Brazil postpones ethanol import duty position until June

May 8, 2017 |

In Brazil, the country’s foreign trade board has postponed a decision on reinstating the ethanol import duty until June, a move welcomed by the US ethanol industry. The center-south ethanol industry is seeking a 20% import tariff while the north-northeast industry, where most ethanol imports are entering the country, is looking for a 20% tariff. Concerns have been voiced that reinstating the tariff could lead to retaliation by the US that could damage other sectors of the national agricultural industry.
