Mexican researchers visit Vancouver biodiesel coop to get ideas on consumer uptake

May 30, 2017 |

In Canada, five Mexican researchers from the Ibero-American University are visiting the Cowichan Bio-Diesel Co-op to better understand the social and environmental drivers behind consumers choosing to use biodiesel blends, even if it costs a few cents per liter more. The coop began in 2005 and sells used cooking oil-based biodiesel collected from 250 restaurants and sells to than 50 institutional and individual members at its two pumps. The researchers believe biodiesel could be an opportunity for Mexico City to reduce its pollution but there are many barriers to uptake, some of which they believe the Canadian coop can shed light upon.
