EPA delays 2018 RFS blending mandate over biofuels imports concerns

July 3, 2017 |

In Washington, the Environmental Protection Agency has delayed publication of the 2018 blending mandates for the Renewable Fuel Standard due to increased Brazilian ethanol imports and Argentine biodiesel imports. As a result, some say the EPA may cut the blending mandates in order to boost reliance on domestic fuels and leave less market availability for imports. If the quotas are changed to restrict imports, which isn’t exactly within the EPA’s remit to do, RIN prices could jump as a result.
