Brazil postpones vote on ethanol import duty again to July 26

July 5, 2017 |

In Brazil, the vote on whether or not the country will impose tariffs on ethanol imports has been postponed again, this time to July 26. The vote had originally been scheduled for May. With ethanol imports surging 63% last year, 90% of which came through North-Northeastern ports that don’t have local taxes on imported ethanol, the biofuel industry has been pushing for the suspension on ethanol import duties that has been in place since 2011 to be rescinded.
