Queensland to sponsor feasibility study for use of blue agave as intercrop ethanol feedstock

In Australia, the state government is seeking to fast track a A$60 million biorefinery in Far North Queensland that will convert sugarcane into 55 million liters of ethanol per year as well as 110,000 metric tons of sugar through the funding of the project’s feasibility study as part of the Biofutures Acceleration Program. The planned facility will trial processing the blue agave as feedstock for ethanol during the inter-crop season to allow for year-round production.
