Rwandan student develops ethanol from sweet potato peels

July 11, 2017 |

In Rwanda, a student at Musanze Polytechnique developed a biorefining process using sweet potatoes that produces wine, donuts and biscuits but also ethanol from the peels. Already he has produced 21 liters of ethanol with the support of the school’s laboratory and his instructors, fuel that has passed standards testing executing at the polytechnic. However, because of lack of financial capacity to develop and market all of the value added products he has invented and register, he will move forward with the higher-value wine production.
