Malaysia wants Philippines to boost biodiesel consumption with imports

July 24, 2017 |

In Malaysia, the country is trying to encourage the Philippines to boost its biodiesel blend to 5% from the current 2% and supplement consumption with sustainable palm oil-based biodiesel imports. Currently the Philippines uses only domestically-produced coconut-based biodiesel at around 323,000 metric tons per year. Malaysia is targeting a 50% increase in palm oil exports to the Philippines by 2020 although coconut oil is also the preferred cooking oil in the country so is trying to boost demand for biofuels as well.
