Some MEPs blast new RED proposal for lack of basis on scientific evidence

September 7, 2017 |

In Belgium, some members of the European Parliament believe that the REDII proposal is intrinsically flawed because its not evidence based in its push away from conventional biofuels. With many conventional biofuels demonstrating high greenhouse gas emissions reductions without competing for food, they see no need to reduce the cap on crop-based biofuels even further to 3.8% in 2030 as proposed while some of the 1,500 amendments proposed seek to keep the cap at 7% through 2030.
