Biodiesel consumption in Germany slows in first half of 2017

September 9, 2017 |

In Germany, UFOP reports that while diesel and petrol consumption increased, the use of biodiesel declined in the first half of 2017, although the higher quota on GHG emission has been in force since January 2017. Bioethanol remained almost at the year-ago level.

March 2017 recorded the highest demand for biodiesel over the past six months, at more than 206,000 tonnes. This was the largest amount since July 2014. However, biodiesel use had been especially low in previous months. Consequently, domestic use of biodiesel from January to June 2017 sank to 1.4 million tonnes. This translates to a 7 per cent drop year-on-year. Since at the same time, consumption of diesel rose 5.3 per cent to 18.06 million tonnes, the incorporation rate came down considerably.
