Al Corn to commission expansion project early but may no longer be a coop by then

September 11, 2017 |

In Minnesota, Al Corn has been impressed by the construction of its $146 million expansion to 120 million gallons of ethanol annually because not only is coming in on budget but it will also be commissioned at least three months early, in either March or April next year. But in the meantime, the question as to the future of the plant won’t be known until at least the end of the month when the tally of votes from cooperative members is finalized. The coop needs to source at least 50% of its corn from members but that’s not possible with existing members with the expansion, so the question has been asked if the company should covert to an LLC in order to open up its corn sourcing options.
