ICAO steps back from sustainability criteria for aviation biofuels

November 13, 2017 |

In Canada, the International Civil Aviation Organization is said to have backed away from ambitious sustainability criteria for aviation biofuel targets following protests by developing countries who said the bar was set too high for them to ever be able to compete or even produce fuels, bringing the criteria down to just two from an original 12. The agreement is expected for release in June but the agency will continue to look at the other 10 criteria until then to see what compromise can be reached.
