New Zealand biodiesel coop launched in an effort to inspire others

November 16, 2017 |

In New Zealand, Kapiti Biodiesel has launched as a cooperative with the aim of supplying UCO-based biodiesel to members from waste cooking oil collected by members from local restaurants. The co-op currently has six members and aims to deliver the first biodiesel by January. To start up the business, they’re also looking to raise NZ$5,500 through crowdfunding. A local entrepreneur who sources fair trade coffee grown by cooperatives for his coffee shop wanted to give the model a try, so he created Kapiti with the idea of using biodiesel in order to inspire others to do the same.
