Ethanol market unsure why prices tanked on Friday

In Illinois, Platts reports that Chicago Argo ethanol futures were off by nearly 3 cents per gallon last Friday to $1.2405, levels not seen since mid-2005, but reached as low as $1.17 earlier in the day in response partly to record-breaking production volumes but also to something else going on the market the trade couldn’t quite put its finger on. RINs for both ethanol and diesel fell as well on Friday as instability continues to reign following potential reforms to the Renewable Fuel Standard.
