UK’s Simec Energy to invest $940 million through 2020 in biofuel and other renewables

December 19, 2017 |

In the UK, Simec Energy is investing $940 million through 2020 to install 1GW of renewable energy, enough to produce 5 million metric tons of recycled steel, for sister company Liberty Steel. Already some of the 500MW energy the company produces comes from fish oil-based biodiesel burned to create power in Scotland while a Welsh coal-fueled power plant will be converted to biomass. Wind and hydroelectric will join biofuels in the investment push over the next couple of years.
