CONAB expects Brazilian mills to only boost ethanol ratio of cane crush by 8 points next season

December 20, 2017 |

In Brazil, Agrimoney reports that the national agricultural statistics agency Conab believes the average cane use for ethanol will only increase by 8 points next season to 52.9% from a total crush of 635.6 million metric tons.

Typically mills favor ethanol production early in the crush season when rains are still common and switch more towards sugar later on but low global sugar prices mixed with stronger domestic gasoline prices have made ethanol more attractive, with mills focusing significantly more on ethanol towards the later stages of this season’s crush.
