Enogen great for ethanol but not for Christmas tamales

December 26, 2017 |

In California, Enogen is seen as a gift from the gods for many ethanol producers across the US but when 120,000 pounds of it made its way into the food supply chain in Los Angeles—becoming masa for tamales instead of ethanol and DDGS—Christmas was ruined for thousands of Mexican American families last year. The family-owned company producing and selling the masa for more than 50 years was nearly ruined as well and had to drop its corn supplier of more than 15 years as a result.
