Philippines domestic ethanol price on the rise due to stronger molasses

January 29, 2018 |

In the Philippines, Platts reports the domestic ethanol price rose more than 3.5% to 91 cents per liter during the first half of January, continuing to strengthen over the past two months after having recovered from a sharp 17.7% fall between H2 July and H2 November. The higher price is attributed to higher molasses prices. A pending sugar tax on soft drinks along with a smaller crop this season are expected to strengthen sugarcane prices further which could support molasses and therefore ethanol prices further.
