Euglena using algae-based bio-SPK in power generation trial

February 1, 2018 |

In Japan, two weeks ago Euglena began testing its algae-based bio-SPK in a power generation facility as part of a trial run schedule to last through June. The company’s pilot facility is expected to come online by October when it will produce about 5 barrels of fuel per day. It believes it can get productions costs down to $1.83 per liter by 2025. The fuel has also been used to power the filming of a TV commercial last year. It first produced ASTM-compliant bio-SPK in 2012.
