Brazilian January ethanol imports soar to 164.6 million liters

February 7, 2018 |

In Brazil, Platts reports that ethanol imports surged again in January to 164.6 million liters on the back of the cheapest ethanol seen in the US in 14 years. Around 300 million liters are expected to be imported during Q1 despite the 20% tariff on imports above 600 million liters per year and 150 million liters per quarter. Despite the surge, Platts estimates 2017 total imports will end 7% lower from last year’s record at about 1.7 billion liters.
