Indian transport minister wants states to go all in on biofuel public transport

February 8, 2018 |

In India, the transportation minister is promoting the uptake of biofuel buses not on a trial basis but on a commercial, large-scale basis such as 5,000 buses for Uttar Pradesh, as a way to ensure viability. Some states, such as Karnataka, have rolled out biofuel bus trials only to back away when they didn’t work due to low fuel demand that wasn’t enough to encourage investment in biofuel production. The minister is working with Scania to develop a program that would help promote the buses as well as a wider infrastructure investment program.
