In Brazil, although much of the hype around RenovaBio has been about a renaissance for the sugarcane industry, the energy ministry has confirmed the policy will also promote biomethane through the decarbonization credit system that will be established, similar to RINs in the US. The number of credits generated by producing biomethane will depend on the lifecycle analysis of the fuel produced. Currently only 2% of biofuels production capacity comes from biogas but the policy aims to boost that market share significantly.
