US ethanol exports collapse in February as China remains conspicuously absent

March 12, 2018 |

In Texas, Platts reports USDA data showing ethanol exports fell by nearly half in February from the month before to 334.4 million liters, also 24% lower than in February 2017, on the back of China’s near absence as an import destination despite strong buying expected throughout Q1. The market had expected exports to remain steady or even increase but China only imported 14,000 cu m in February, leaving traders to wonder if shipments leaving later than expected would be recorded for March instead of February.
