Spanish biodiesel consumption jumped 18% in January but ethanol fell

In Spain, Platts reports that biodiesel consumption jumped in January to 93,328 metric tons, more than 18% higher on the year and marginally higher than in December. Fossil diesel consumption fell, pushing the blending level to 5.08% on a volume basis compared to 4.56% last year and 4.89% in December. Ethanol consumption fell in January however, to 19,993 tons, down nearly 5% on the year but fairly steady from December. With higher gasoline consumption, volumetric blending was 5.43% for the month, compared to more than 6% in January 2017 but higher than December’s 5.01%.
