In India, the Hindu Business Line reports that the Cabinet has approved the long-awaited biofuel policy that will deregulate the ethanol industry allowing it produce fuel from feedstocks other than molasses, including $738.3 million for second generation ethanol over the next six years, in an effort to reduce fossil fuel imports significantly. Waste-to-energy will also be a key area of promotion and investment in an effort to reduce MSW piling up in urban areas.
