Ethanol industry and Ag Secretary point to ethanol demand destruction

In Washington, the Chronicle reports the oil industry is pointing to recent figures showing ethanol consumption has not been negatively impacted by the recent flood of hardship waivers granted by the Environmental Protection Agency but the Renewable Fuels Agency argues that impacts to demand will take some time to work its way into the market. The Agriculture Secretary said last week that the waivers will lead to demand destruction for ethanol and cautions against the negative impacts on the farm economy.
