Copersucar boosting ethanol production despite smaller cane crush

June 18, 2018 |

In Brazil, Reuters reports that Copersucar will boost its ethanol production to 4.5 billion liters this season, up from 4.3 billion liters last year. That’s from a 3% smaller anticipated cane crush of 83 million metric tons. Currently, ethanol gives the equivalent of 16 cents per pound of sugar compared to raw sugar prices sold at around 12 cents per pound on the global market. The company sees the national cane crush at 555 million tons this season compared to 596 million tons last year.
