South Carolina farmers jump on chance to grow hemp

July 4, 2018 |

In South Carolina, the search for farmers to grow hemp is on with more than 100 applying for the license to grow 40 acres. Only 40 farmers will be selected from the 133 that have already applied and potentially more that come in before Friday’s deadline. Last year’s hemp trial granted 20 farmers licenses to grow 20 acres, but its success has led to expanding the program this year in hopes of developing a supply chain that could eventually including biofuel and other biomaterial production.
