European rapeseed yields seen falling due to drought and frost

July 12, 2018 |

In Belgium, European rapeseed yields are expected to take a major hit this year due to weather anomalies such as droughts as frosts, potentially cutting production to 20 million metric tons from an expected 22.1 million tons in 2017/18. With China expected to boost rapeseed imports to compensate for a lack of US soybean as a result of the ongoing trade war with the US, European rapeseed prices could jump significantly, weighing on the viability of the crop as a feedstock for biofuel.
