India’s first biofuel flight takes wings

August 26, 2018 |

In India, SpiceJet is planning to operate a turboprop, Q-400, from Dehradun to Delhi using biofuel for the first time in India today. India has been promoting biofuels lately to reduce its dependence on fossil fuel and fuel imports. The Prime Minister recently release the national biofuels policy on “World Biofuel Day 2018,” as reported by The Digest in August 2018. The new policy aims 20% blending of ethanol into petrol by 2030.

According to the Times of India, the flight will first fly over the city of Dehradun for 10 minutes then land, then take off again to go to Delhi. Officials from several regulatory agencies, including the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), will be on board to see the result of this flight.
