Brazilian ethanol imports slide 67% between July and August

September 6, 2018 |

In Brazil, Platts reports August ethanol imports dropped 67% from the prior month and 65% on the year to the lowest in two years at 47.6 million liters. Total imports for the year are only down 5.5%, however, at 1.4 billion liters. Nearly all of the imports came through North-Northeast ports from the US. Devaluation of the Brazilian Real is expected to weigh on September imports as well, adding to the fact that August and September imports are typically lower because sugarcane mills are at their peak crushing period.
