Indonesia pushing power company to switch to biodiesel by 2020

September 18, 2018 |

In Indonesia, the Jakarta Post reports that the energy minister said in a speech electricity company PLN could convert its 2,000MW of fossil fuel-powered production to crude palm oil-based biodiesel in the next two years. He called on the company to fall in line with others like Pertnamina in reducing fossil fuel use whose imports are negatively impacting the country’s trade balance and in turn weakening its currency. He also said the power company should keep energy prices stable when converting to renewables rather than passing on higher prices to consumers.
